Chile Sentido

A journey through the senses, art and identity

Chile Sentido was a multisensory art exhibition presented by the Chilean Australian Association (CASA) in partnership with LATAM Airlines, with the support of the Consulate of Chile in Sydney, the Embassy of Chile in Australia and a network of valued sponsors and partners.

Held from 7–10 November 2024 at Comber Street Studios in Paddington, Sydney, the exhibition brought together Chilean artists living in Australia to explore the emotions, memories, stories and connections that shape the experience of living away from home.

More than an art exhibition, Chile Sentido was an invitation to reconnect with Chile through sight, sound, smell, taste and touch. Through artworks and interactive experiences, visitors were encouraged to explore identity, belonging, nostalgia and the many ways our connection to Chile continues to live on across generations and borders.

A community experience

Chile Sentido brought together artists, families, community members, cultural leaders, media and visitors from different backgrounds, creating a space where Chilean culture could be shared with both the Chilean diaspora and the wider Australian community.

The exhibition featured 14 participating artists and welcomed more than 300 attendees over four days.

One of the highlights was the Day of Chilean Fauna workshop, developed by Eggpicnic and led by Polly Cevallos, where participants explored Chilean wildlife while creating their own paper animals.

Reaching beyond the gallery

The story of Chile Sentido extended beyond the exhibition space, receiving coverage and exposure through platforms including SBS, Weekly Travel, City of Sydney and Global Travel Media, as well as social media and sponsor channels.

This media and digital presence helped amplify the voices of the participating artists and showcase Chilean culture and creativity to audiences beyond the immediate community.

Chile Sentido demonstrated the power of art to create connection, evoke memories and bring communities together.

It also became an important foundation for CASA's next artistic initiative, UNO, taking the idea of connection one step further by inviting audiences to actively participate in the creation of the artwork.
